Hi, I am Dr. Ankita Srivastava. I am a gynaecologist and obstetrician with over 10 years of experience. I currently practice at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi and at Zoe Nutrition For Life. I am the co-creator of the conceive effortlessly online program. It is a 3 month online program designed to provide personalised care and attention to you from leading experts in the country and help you get pregnant faster, naturally, easily & most definitely. 😊
I often interact with several patients who are a part of my online program to give them personalised consultations and guide them regarding the problems that they are facing in their pregnancy journey. This, along with my experience practicing at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi, have together helped me understand and know some of the most common and unaddressed queries, issues and concerns that modern couples face when they are trying to start their family and conceive a baby. I also believe that we can all learn from each other's journey as well as the experiences, hence, I document interactions with several of my patients so that others can learn from these documentations as well. One such case has been shared by me below.
"I have very less bleeding during my periods. Is it possible for me to get pregnant?"
She also mentioned that her AMH is 3.5 on the second day of her periods . She was also on oral contraceptive pills (or OCP) for 3 months. You can find my recommendations for the patient in the section below.
"Contraceptive pills can cause reduction in the overall blood flow, but that does not affect your fertility at all. You know, what we've seen is as soon as you stop your contraception pills, whether you've taken it for one year or six months, as soon as you stop it, your fertility is reversed. So you can get pregnant in the next month of stopping your contraception as well. So it's not going to reduce the fertility at all. Regarding blood flow reduction, yes, that is seen when you are on oral contraceptive pills, but that has nothing to do with your fertility. Now, coming to your AMH level, AMH of upto 4 is considered to be normal. So that is falling in the normal range for you. To me, everything looks favourable for you to be able to conceiving. If you've stopped your oral contraceptive pills, start trying now in the best fertile periods, which falls around when you're ovulating. You don't need to wait after you stop your contraceptive pills, because several times I am asked this question that if I've had oral contraceptive pills for a while, is this going to affect my developing baby? So don't worry as that's not going to have any effect on your developing baby. You don't need to space out your pregnancy from the day you end your OCPs. So, in my opinion, you can start immediately. That's not going to affect your pregnancy at all. You know, there are some women who end up conceiving when they're on the pill too. They'll be taking the 21 day pill and if they even end up missing one day, that one day also they end up conceiving. So basically what I'm trying to get to is that even if you end up conceiving by chance while you are taking your oral contraceptive pills, there is nothing to worry about. You don't need to abort your child because your pregnancy will not be affected by the OCPs. Your baby's brain development or development of the organs will not be affected at all. So try to get pregnant naturally without any worries and I'm sure we'll be hearing a good news from you soon!"
